Statistical Standard for Geographic Areas (SSGA) consultation Phase 1
Dear GIS users and users of small area data
Statistics New Zealand are currently undertaking a major review of our statistical geographies and will shortly be seeking feedback on these geographies.
The review of the Statistical Standard for Geographic Areas (SSGA) will:
determine the optimal statistical geographies required for outputting Statistics NZ data
develop a set of statistical geographies for output purposes, and
define the geographic concepts, standards, boundaries, and maintenance strategies.
The SSGA review is being completed in two phases. In phase 1, we are reviewing small area output geographies (including area units), and the urban/rural classification. In phase 2, we'll look at other relevant geographies that will make our data more meaningful for you. These may include geographies relevant to a super-city, Maori, or even labour market areas. The standards and concepts for phase 1 geographies are being established in 2015 - 16 and boundaries will be set in 2016 -17. Phase 2 will commence in 2018.
Consultation for phase 1 of the Statistical Standard for Geographic Areas (SSGA) is now open.
An overview of the SSGA review, and consultation papers on small area output geographies and the urban/rural classification are available on our website - http://www.stats.govt.nz/methods/classifications-and-standards/current-classifications-and-standards-review/stat-std-geo-areas-2015-review.aspx.
We’d love to hear from you, so you can help us help you. Please send your feedback by 8am Monday 14 December 2015. You can either complete the consultation using the online form or join the discussion on Loomio. All details are available in the consultation papers.
As key users of our data, your feedback is important to help determine the optimal statistical geographies needed for producing data and we look forward to receiving your feedback.
